Hello friend,
I flew to New York City for a weekend recently. Isn’t it just amazing that we get to do that? It felt fitting in a month where I have been doing a lot of stretching. I’ve been expanding my capacity and learning to lean into it.
Speaking of stretching, I needed some good stretching after all that walking! I loved the different kinds of food, Central Park and the Met! I love a good museum, and the Met did not disappoint. I stood in front of a Turner painting and had to blink back tears. My mom loved the Tate Museum in London for its Turner collection. Maybe it was the beauty of the painting. Maybe it was the memory of my mom. Maybe both. There I stood, among all the Saturday guests squeezed into The Met, wishing I had a Kleenex.
In another gallery there was a painting of a beautiful hunting scene, but the thing that caught my attention? A dog. I started thinking about how much fun it would be to write a children’s book from the point of view of the dog. Something like “You’ve Met (get it?) Me, I’m the Dog in the Painting.” Or the “The Hound of the Met.” Who knows if it will ever happen, but the idea made me smile and I’m holding on to it.
Back home, the daffodils have crawled through the mulch and are showing off. I’m procrastinating on getting a few house projects done because I just want to soak up the sun. I may or may not ever take my Christmas lights down since some of them now can pass as tulips amid the daffodils.
I’m reevaluating my planning/life systems. Some are working. Others? Not so much, spurring me to make some changes. Spring is inching in, and it feels hopeful. The kind of hope you want to soak up and store away for another day.
Wherever this week finds you:
trying new things,
letting go of plans,
or just watching something bloom,
I hope you are able to be present and awake to it.
I’ll be cheering you on,
Paige
