Happy Tuesday!
Late last week,
my Oura Ring declared a snow day...kinda.
Its exact words: “To help your body stay in balance, only do what feels good today.”
My first thought was, listen here, Ring. Have you been paying attention at all? The one who made me a mom first is getting married in eight days.
Eight. Days.
We’re not exactly in a season of "do what feels easy.” We are in a season of pulling a wedding off in a different state, stuffing favors, steaming dresses, finding decorations, and wondering which of my lists is actually the list, while trying not to dehydrate from the assault of tears of joy and tears of…well I’m not quite sure, but today on a Zoom call, I cried over a prayer. Ain’t got time.
Still, maybe that bossy little ring had a point. I didn’t sleep well last night, probably because I came up with a big brain idea early in the evening. I’m going to be honest, since this is a safe space, it may or may not have been buffering (because you know, eight days) disguised as brilliance. So, here I am groggy and buzzing, and maybe what I need most in the middle of this whirlwind is actually the smallest of mercies: take it easy.
The thing I love about the Oura Ring is that it tells it like it senses it. It’s August, and what I need most before a wedding is the August equivalent of a snow day. She’s like having a brilliantly kind boss who says, “Go home. Rest. Try again tomorrow.”
It’s an invitation we all need more often. Let’s not hustle harder. Let’s not optimize. Let’s not pretend we’re machines that can crank out our best performance on demand. Let’s move at the speed of kindness instead.
Balance isn’t built in the pushing. It’s built in the gentleness. Sometimes the best coaching shows up in the smallest places, like a ring on your finger declaring a snow day for your soul.
So, if you need it:
Permission granted. Do only what feels easy.
The irony is not lost on me: my Oura Ring, the bossy little thing declaring snow days, also needs to be recharged. Apparently, we’re both running on low battery.
I’ll be cheering you on, but first I’m going to take a nap. 💤
