Are you ready for March? That delightful quirky crazy month that’s caught between winter’s chill and spring’s promise. It’s like the moments when your little ones were almost out of diapers, yet you kept a spare just in case. Or when they were on the brink of driving, and you gripped the passenger door as if it were a lifeline. March embodies that feeling of almost there, it’s the in-between. It’s also possible some of us are in our own personal “March season” of life.
March mornings still have still have a bite, yet the afternoons tease us with the notion that we might soon tuck away our winter coats. We wonder, “Are we there yet?” and learn that we’re almost there! I adore the anticipation of March—it's like standing in line for something thrilling, not knowing when it will be your turn.
If it’s a “March season,” the kids may be grown, or nearly there, the house has quieted down, we are left pondering what comes next. We’re not quite in the next chapter, but maybe not quiet out of the old chapter either.
We don’t have to wait for the weather (real or figurative) to make a big change to feel different. We can shape our feelings through our actions.
March is the perfect time to lean into the in-between. Instead of rushing ahead or waiting for something to shift, we can start shaping the way we want this next season to feel. We know that we can create our feelings and that sometimes, the best way to do that is through actions.
What do you want this next month to feel like? Light? Cozy? Excited? Grounded? Let’s bring those feelings to life!
1. Want to feel cozy? Winter may not be done with us yet, so let’s savor those slow moments before spring’s busyness takes over.
· Upgrade your morning coffee or tea ritual! Swap in a fun new mug feels just right to hold in both hands, so you can enjoy the warmth.
· Grab a heated throw blanket for those unpredictable cold snaps. Bonus points: Keep it on your chair while working so you never have to endure a chilly afternoon Zoom call.
· Read The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking for tips on cultivating warmth and happiness in everyday life.
2. Want to feel energized? With longer days ahead, let’s seize the gift of extra daylight!
· Get outside for a “first signs of spring” walk. No agenda, just look for hints—buds on trees, birds that weren’t there last month, that first warm breeze.
· Do your walking shoes need to be upgraded or replaced? Invest in a great pair of walking shoes—that are comfy but still stylish enough for a spontaneous lunch with a friend.
· Switch up your playlists. Try a “March Moves” playlist—something fresh and upbeat (I’d start with "Brave" by Sara Bareilles).
3. Want to feel put together? After living in leggings all winter, it’s time for a refresh to brighter everyday looks.
· Swap out your wintery dark nail polish for a soft neutral pink.
· Dig into your closet for a pop of color-how about an aqua blouse in a vibrant pink tee?
· Visit your favorite cosmetic counter to explore fresh scents or simply enjoy the experience of test them, especially the light fresh floral one.
4. Want to feel excited? New season, new possibilities! It’s a wonderful time for dreaming and planning.
· Create a “Spring Bucket List” but make it fun and doable. Try a new restaurant with outdoor seating, take a day trip somewhere, plant something, even if it’s just a kitchen herb garden.
· Break out a beautiful stash of writing supplies. No need to go shopping because I know you have a stash. Write out some goals for the next few months.
· Watch The Hundred-Foot Journey a feel-good movie about stepping into new experiences with great food scenes.
March weather sets the stage for us to test the waters, try little things and ease into what’s next. Whether you are curling up under a blanket or stepping outside to enjoy the longer days, remember how you want to feel is something you can create, one small action at a time.
And I’ll be cheering you on, sitting under my electric blanket and sipping my favorite Tazo Glaze Lemon Loaf Tea. ๐
